The Thirteen Gorges of Nitmiluk National Park – Australia

Nitmiluk National Park is a deep canyon eroded by the pristine Katherine River which has carved thirteen gorges over the centuries, divided by narrow rocky rapids. In order to visit the park, it is necessary to take part in a boat trip, which is wedged in the canyon between impressive rock walls colored in their typical orange.

The various tours available allow you to visit from two to four gorges, respectively with a 2 or 4-hours trip. At the end of each gorge, it is necessary to take a short walk on a rocky stretch where navigation is impossible, and then embark again to the following gorge.

In the river, it is not uncommon to meet freshwater crocodiles, which reach a maximum length of 3 meters, but they are much less dangerous than the fierce saltwater crocodiles that fill up the waters of Kakadu.

Katherine Gorge is also very popular: a 12km long gorge with rocks even higher than 70m.
