The tour of the Salar of Uyuni and the Eduardo Avaroa Reserva Nacional is an incredible experience, thanks to which you will be able to see rare and wonderful landscapes. The two tours primarily start from Bolivia, respectively from Tupiza or Uyuni. Some people prefer doing the reverse tour, starting from San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.
We left on our own, on a jeep from Tupiza, and after 6 hours of passing through wonderful valleys with Andean music in the background, we arrived in the cold Uyuni. A sleepy town that does not offer much, apart from being the starting point for the travel experience that will be one of the most beautiful of your life.
We left the day after our arrival. We chose a tour that would take us later to Chile, to San Pedro de Atacama. Our group consisted of four people plus the driver and the cook.
Majestic mountains overlook the splendid lagoons where pink flamingos dance elegantly. Desert landscapes studded with the most diverse rock formations, a magnificent clear blue sky in the background and then, finally, the dazzling white of the salar. Unforgettable views accompanied by the deafening wind noise.
The show went on when we reached the Laguna Colorada, a miracle of nature. The red, blue and white shades of the lagoon populated by hundreds of pink flamingos and, in the background, wild volcanoes, they all filled our eyes with an extraordinary beauty.
The following day our amazement continued, and we visited the Sol de Mañana geyser area. Here are located the Termas de Polques, some thermal springs perfect for having a bath in sulphurous waters at about 30° C.
In this area we reached the highest altitude of our trip at about 5.500 meters above sea level.
The last surprise, before arriving in Chile, was the Green Lagoon and, on the horizon, the Licancabur volcano. The view left us breathless.
