The best season
The climate is tropical and has two seasons dominated by monsoon winds: a dry season from June to September, a rainy season from December to March. The heaviest rainfall is recorded in December and January. Intermediate periods are subject to the effects of the two seasons. We visited Indonesia in August and temperatures in summer are pleasant, except for the highest areas where the air is cooler.
What to wear
In the volcanic area (especially on Mount Bromo), as well as the Dieng Plateau, you should put something warm on, as if you were going to the mountains. Kawa Jien is less cold, but a jacket or fleece is a good idea. Do not forget a hat to protect yourself from the sun during the hottest hours.
Transportation
Apart from some domestic flights taken to avoid an unnecessary waste of time, we have always used local means of transport (coaches, cars, scooters), or turned to local agencies in the case of some excursions.
Where to stay
As for hotels, the Lonely Planet guide is always our bible. However, be aware that nearby the hotels recommended by the guide there are always others at the same level and usually at a better price. So, if you do not want to book in advance, the offer is quite good.
