Dampier Peninsula: Cape Leveque – Australia

From Broome  that’s where our adventure on our 4×4 begins.

First stop: the Broome supermarket. We bought food for the following two days but, above all, beer for our aperitifs in front of the ocean. Only then, we were ready to leave for our first destination: Cape Leveque. It is about a 3-and-a-half-hour drive on dirt road from Broome, with an average of 70-80 km/h.

The trip was really fun: driving on sand is super nice once you learn the technique. We arrived at our destination in the late morning. We stayed in the only existing campsite in Cape Leveque: the Kolijaman. After choosing our parking space, we ran to see the ocean. There are no words to describe its beauty.

Being on the end of the peninsula, you can visit both sides which, despite being very close, have very different characteristics. On one side, the red rocks clash with the white sand and the blue ocean (the sunset is truly breathtaking). On the other side, the black rocks scattered throughout the deserted and immense beach offer a completely different landscape.

Time passes without even realizing it. Walking with serenity and in solitude on the beach while admiring such a unique view, is a priceless feeling.

We spent a couple of days here before returning to Broome and embarking on our trip along the Gibb River Road (link). We can guarantee that the journey is worth the challenge.
