A journey to India: a special meaning

This is the trip I consider the most special. In a sense, it was more like what we would call “the traveler’s baptism” because it was the very first trip organized by Ale and I, with the help of the Lonely Planet guide which, since then, has always been our inseparable companion for all our trips to come.

It all started when, for some reason, I felt like I wanted to find out more about this country. So I bought a book: “India” by Folco Quilici. I was captured by it.

Through his words, while I was reading about the biggest camel fair held in Pushkar in November, I began to travel with my mind and imagine the merchants mingling with pilgrims, the trades, fortune tellers, snake charmers and jugglers come here from all over the world to attend one of the most spectacular shows in India.

So, when Ale and I had decided to take our first trip together, I immediately suggested this destination. He wasn’t sure yet, since he wanted to go to Africa. So I proposed him a sort of competition: a presentation in which everyone would explain the reasons of why should we visit our favorite destination. Obviously, there was no contest, I won (he didn’t prepare).

Since we were novices and inexperienced in the organization of a trip as such, we turned to different agencies that gave us too expensive proposals for our budgets.

So, we decided to give up and organize everything on our own. India, here we come!
